I honestly don't know much about Edsels except they're considered ugly and were an abysmal failure for Ford. They are ugly, but they are also interesting. I was really surprised to see this first car. It was pretty rough and appears to have been driven here from Oregon (see the plates). Here is Colorado. The old guy driving it had a lot of character, just like his car. The second car had been painstakingly remodeled. I overheard the owner go on about how he did this, then that, followed by many more things. He was proud and rightly so. Peruse at your convenience.

They weren't all so ugly. 1960 Edsel.
The back end... You decide.
But the lines were beautiful late 50's.

People had already decided that Edsels were ugly. Total production was around 2500 cars. The company had already decided to discontinue them before they started production.

The story, urban myth or otherwise, was always that Edsels were a commercial failure because of the resemblance of the grille to a vagina, rather than the thrusting phallic imagery which was in vogue at the time and to this day. I took this pic of two of them on the main drag in Seligman on Route 66, several years ago.
